Kitten taken from Petco returned by Rogers Police

Emmitt, the kitten stolen from Petco just minutes before his adoptive parents came to pick him up June 6th was returned to Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue yesterday, July 29th by Rogers police. The Rogers police arested the man who took Emmitt for unrelated charges. He confessed to taking Emmitt while being questioned and led policed to where Emmitt had been taken. Police were able to identify Emmitt. Emmitt was in good condition and was returned to Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue. Emmitt's adoptive parents were excited to know they would still have the chance to adopt Emmitt. Emmitt will be going home soon.

NWA Animal Rescue's May Spay & Neuter Clinic

Well, we are all exhausted but happy. Our May spay and neuter clinic was very successful, we spayed and neutered 28 animals!! Northwest Arkansas is overburdened with homeless and abandoned dogs and cats, the only solution is spaying and neutering.

Microchip/Vaccination clinic at BigWag

Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue’s Microchip/Vaccination Clinic held Saturday April 18th at BigWag Gourmet Dog Bakery in Rogers, Arkansas was a resounding success. Dr. Harper of Bella Vista Village Animal Hospital assisted by veterinary technician Angie Johnson were able to vaccinate or microchip 71 dogs and 6 cats at the clinic. NWAAR members Elaine Tayrien, Mary Lou Pohlmann and the owners of BigWag Erin and Cary Hague along with staff members assisted attendees. Volunteers Vienna Willard and Rick Patton also assisted during the event.

Several dogs were available for adoption during the event; one from Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue and three from Sugar Creek Animal Rescue. Look for our next Microchip/Vaccination Clinic at Dogs Downtown in Rogers, on May 9th. Our next low cost spay/neuter clinic will be May 30th at the Bentonville Police Department.

This event definitely contributed to NWAAR’s mission to protect animals.

Poker Tournament Fund Raiser Results

Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue held it’s first annual Texas Hold’em poker tournament November 8th, 2008 to help raise funds for a mobile spay-neuter clinic, cover NWAAR operating costs and to protect animals. Over sixty five people came to participate. Players started entering the event at the Rogers-Bentonville Elk’s Lodge BPOE #2144 at one in the afternoon. Play began at two. Chris Peplinski of the Northwest Arkansas Poker Club oversaw play. Play was intense with players wanting to win the grand prize a 50” flat screen television. Play continued until almost nine that evening. Drawings were made throughout the event for prizes ranging from gift certificates to a portable DVD player. Onlookers watched as the final games were played until the final grand prize winner Richard Coleman won the last hand. Mr. Coleman had just lost his television due to a power surge and was very happy to win the 50” flat screen television.

Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue would like to extend a special thank you to Chris and Chrissy Peplinski for assisting NWAAR with organizing and holding the event. NWAAR would also like to thank all the sponsors, the Rogers-Bentonville Elk’s Lodge, Blue Eyes Photo Group for taking event photographs, players and volunteers for their contributions. The event raised just over three thousand dollars for Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue. Keep an eye out for us next year! This event was a lot of work but, we learned a great deal, are very pleased with the outcome and will be holding this event again next year.

Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue is in the middle of our major donation drive for the year! We will be purchasing a mobile spay and neuter unit which will GREATLY assist in the over population of the cats and dogs in this area. This unit's total cost will be $160,000 which does not include the supplies that will be necessary to operate. This unit will be ONE OF A KIND for this area! We would feel honored if you would assist us in a donation. We are also accepting corporate sponsorships and all who participate will be "thanked" on our website. As a policy Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue will assist in owner turn in or strays for a donation fee of $75. This fee assists us in updating the animal with all shots and any additional vets necessary. Please know that currently Northwest Arkansas Animal Rescue is at its capacity and can not accept any additional owner turn in.
